We aim to keep you up to date with all the recent news and events from Cuddles here! Below are some of the items the charity has been able to fund to support the unit.
This is all thanks to you, our amazing fundraisers!
Cuddles boxes are now supplied to all families to support them and their children during their time on the unit.
The boxes include a diary for keeping accurate information and appointments, pens, Cuddles teddy bear, information booklet and an insulated mug for parents to have a hot drink whilst around the incubators.
As always, thanks to all our supporters who continue to enable us to provide vital equipment for parents, families and children in need of the Special Care Baby Unit.
In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, the ward staff told us that they were having to restrict visitors. Often only one parent could attend at a time. To help with this, we purchased two IPads. They could be used by staff to video call parents and siblings who were unable to visit the hospital.
We know how important it is to assist parents as much as we can whilst they are on the ward and even more so given the further restrictions they’ve faced during the pandemic. As always, we can only do this because of our amazing fundraisers!
This is the feedback from Gethin’s family;
“the video calls they were able to receive in the evening have helped his older siblings bond with him throughout the long four months that he was in hospital. His big sister Mali loved seeing him and would wait for his call each evening before she went to bed.
Mum and Dad (Lowri and James)really appreciated how this helped their family feel together at a very difficult time”
Zaky Zaks were provided to the unit to promote skin to skin contact between parents and their babies.
Evidence suggests that during continuous contact the baby can develop and grow. It also promotes a bond between baby and parent.
The body cooling machine costs £16,000.
The Neonatal team were delighted that Cuddles agreed to meet the cost of this life saving equipment.
Huge thank you to Molly Jones, mum of baby Nola and proud grandad Peter Gwyn for raising £4,370 for Cuddles in a charity event which in total raised over £10,000 and equally supported Cherish (Wrexham's neonatal unit) and Ronald McDonald House at Arrowe Park.
A huge thank you to Harry, George's brother, who raised £157.00 for Cuddles with a non-school uniform day! Thank you so much Harry.
A huge thank you to Alun, Sian and Cai who ran a bingo night in December raising a massive £2,000 for Cuddles. Cai's mum said "Cai was born at YGC at 30 weeks and spent 12 days in neontal care. At the time we were 5 hours away from home and benefitted greatly from the care we received".
Thank you for arranging the forgotten bike show in aid of the Special Care Baby Unit. The huge show included show prizes, raffles, bikes, live bands, stalls and kids rides!
